Piran is a postcard-pretty coastal town situated at the tip of a narrow ‘V’ shape peninsula at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea in southwestern Slovenia, about halfway between Trieste (Italy) and Rovinj (Croatia). In fact, the 47 km long Slovenian Coast has a couple of beaches, though perhaps not as impressive as other ones in the Mediterranean. Additionally, the country has three historical towns that are well worth visiting: Koper, Izola and Piran. Through the centuries, Slovenia has been part of Italy, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Yugoslavia.

Piran is one of my favorite places in Slovenia and has wide range of things to do. Known for its Venetian architecture and viewpoints it is a place not to be missed. The Slovenian coastline is only 46.6km (29 miles) but just like everywhere else in Slovenia, don’t let the size fool you.
